While at the gym, I was flipping through some magazines (I was done working out, okay?) when I came across this ad that read:
If you can run, you can run farther. If you can train, you can train harder. And if you do, you can fight cancer.
I thought it was a pretty cool ad and DetermiNATION is quite the catchy name for what they’re trying to accomplish. Here’s some slanted info from the site:
The American Cancer Society DetermiNation program will help you do the unthinkable, achieve what seems impossible, and change the course of cancer forever. With access to professional training, an unparalleled community of support, and inspiration every step of the way, the American Cancer Society will help you finish a half-marathon, marathon, or triathlon. Your personal race victory will change your life, but the finish line will be just the beginning. Because your triumph also means a triumph over cancer – where every step you take and every mile you conquer will create a world with less cancer and more birthdays.

After checking out their site in detail, I discovered that they are in Chicago for the Sport Fitness Rock n’ Roll Half Marathon on July 22, 2012 if any of you running aficionados are looking for a good cause.
What I also appreciate is how you can not only donate conventionally, but also sponsor an athlete in the program already. They have also highlighted what they call Employer Gift Matching…which is exactly what it sounds like and I think it’s really cool when your workplace can get behind your personal efforts and not just your daily reports. So check it out and get DETERMINED! Tons of ways to help.
